The League of Muslim School Proprietors (LEAMSP), Ogun State Chapter, has called for urgent reforms to improve the standard of Muslim schools and make them globally competitive.
This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of its 2026 Education Summit held in Abeokuta, where stakeholders discussed the future of Muslim education in the state.
The summit, themed “Redefining Quality Education in Muslim Schools: Excellence, Values and Global Competence,” brought together government officials, school owners, scholars and other stakeholders in the education sector.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of LEAMSP in Ogun State, AbdulAzeez Ajibola, said Muslim schools must adopt a new approach that combines academic excellence with strong moral and Islamic values.
Dignitaries at the summit included the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mukhtar Abayomi Adelaja Arigbabu; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mariam Oloko; the Registrar of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, Ronke Soyombo; and the President of LEAMSP Worldwide, Abdul Waheed Obalakun. Others were the Chairman of the occasion, AbdulHameed Omotayo Omoowo, and the guest lecturer, Soliu Alao Amolegbe.
The communiqué noted that changes in technology, globalisation and societal values are affecting the education sector, creating new challenges for Muslim schools.
It added that schools must balance Western education with Islamic teachings, while ensuring that students are not only academically sound but also morally and socially responsible.
LEAMSP also pointed out that many Muslim schools face challenges such as inadequate funding, poor infrastructure and limited capacity.
To address these issues, the association urged schools to adopt a balanced curriculum, invest in teacher training, and embrace modern technology.
It also called for better collaboration with government and private organisations to improve learning conditions and outcomes.
The summit commended the Ogun State Government and other stakeholders for their efforts in supporting education.
LEAMSP, however, urged school owners, teachers and parents to work together in raising students who are disciplined, morally upright and globally competitive.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the resolutions reached at the summit, describing it as a step towards improving Muslim education in Ogun State.
