Lagos Warns Estate Residents Against Allocation Violations

The Lagos State Government has warned residents of its housing estates against violating allocation rules, saying offenders could face legal action.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Abdulhafis Toriola, gave the warning at a stakeholders’ meeting held for residents of government-owned housing estates in Agbowa-Ikosi, Epe Division, on Saturday.

Toriola, represented by the Director of Legal Services, Bukade Idowu-Koya, urged residents to comply with housing regulations and maintain facilities provided by the government.

He noted that government interventions had improved the estate, stressing that residents must take responsibility for maintaining the facilities and protecting public investments.

Also speaking, the Director of Estates, Olukemi Fosudo, warned against unauthorised building alterations, commercial activities and other violations of estate regulations.

She advised residents to obtain approval before modifying their buildings or installing solar inverter systems. She added that property allottees would be held responsible for violations committed by their tenants.

Fosudo also urged residents to maintain the estate, pay required contributions and insurance premiums, and cooperate with facility managers.

The traditional ruler of Agbowa-Ikosi, Oba Saliu Monsoru, called for cooperation between residents and the government to address challenges facing the estate.

The Chairman of Choice City Housing Estate, Olabiyi Fosina, commended the government for providing solar-powered streetlights, roads, perimeter fencing and additional water supply points.

However, he appealed for more facilities, including a shopping complex, recreational centres, an estate hall, additional streetlights and the completion of outstanding roads.

Meanwhile, security and fire service officials advised residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies and observe fire safety measures to prevent emergencies.

The meeting was attended by representatives of various government agencies and other relevant organisations.
