Hamzat calls for residents’ compliance with monthly sanitation in Lagos

The Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Usman Hamzat, has called on residents to comply with the reintroduced monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Lagos State.

Hamzat made the call in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Salaam Lateef, stressing the need for collective responsibility in maintaining a healthy and safe environment.

He urged residents, property owners and other stakeholders to embrace environmental cleanliness as a culture for the overall wellbeing of the community.

According to him, the exercise will hold on Saturday, April 25, between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., during which vehicular and pedestrian movements will be restricted.

He advised residents to clean their premises, including drains, gutters and frontages, and ensure proper bagging of waste for disposal at designated collection points.

The chairman noted that the Lagos Waste Management Authority and licensed Private Sector Participants would handle waste evacuation, while environmental health officers and enforcement teams would monitor compliance.

Hamzat described the exercise as a public health measure aimed at preventing environmental hazards and curbing the spread of communicable diseases.

He added that the council would continue to support relevant agencies to ensure effective implementation and sustain a clean and flood-free environment.
