The Coalition for Affordable and Regular Electricity (CARE) says Nigeria’s power sector privatisation has not yet delivered the expected improvement in electricity supply and service delivery.
The group’s National Coordinator, Chinedu Bosah, said this on Sunday in Lagos while speaking with journalists.
Bosah noted that many electricity consumers still struggle with unreliable power supply, estimated billing, and lack of access to prepaid meters. He also said some consumers continue to spend extra money on basic electricity infrastructure such as transformers and meters.
He said electricity distribution companies (DisCos) need to improve their services and address complaints from consumers.
According to him, challenges in generation and transmission are still affecting steady power supply, adding that more investment is needed across the sector.
Bosah also called for greater transparency, accountability, and engagement among all stakeholders in the power sector.
He stressed that cooperation between government, operators, and consumers is necessary to achieve stable and affordable electricity in Nigeria.
He added that fixing the power sector remains important for economic growth and improved living conditions in the country.
