The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has elected Adewole Adebayo as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
Adebayo emerged as the party’s consensus candidate during the SDP national convention and presidential primary held on Saturday in Bauchi.
Chairman of the electoral committee, Edoho James-Nsima, announced that delegates from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory unanimously endorsed Adebayo as the party’s sole aspirant.
In his acceptance speech, Adebayo pledged to deliver inclusive governance, tackle poverty and insecurity, revive industries, create jobs, and improve access to quality education and healthcare.
He also urged opposition parties to work together ahead of the 2027 election to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The convention also produced a new National Working Committee, with Sadiq Abubakar-Gombe elected as the party’s substantive national chairman.
The election comes amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the party following the expulsion of former chairman Shehu Gabam.
