Reps Speaker Abbas Tajudeen declares bid for fifth-term re-election

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has declared his intention to seek re-election in the 2027 general elections.

He made the declaration on Saturday at a rally held at the Filin Mallawa Eid Ground in Zaria, amid a large turnout of supporters, party leaders, and stakeholders.

The event began with a solidarity walk from Babban Dodo through Zaria city to the venue, drawing top government officials, lawmakers, traditional rulers, and business leaders.

Speaking at the rally, Tajudeen said his decision was driven by his record in office and measurable achievements.

“This declaration is not based on promises alone, but on work and results that our people can see and verify,” he said.

He highlighted key legislative and constituency achievements, including the sponsorship of 74 bills prior to his emergence as speaker, out of which 21 were signed into law.

He also cited empowerment initiatives in agriculture and small business support, including distribution of farm inputs, vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles, and financial assistance to thousands of beneficiaries.

According to him, about 2,400 people benefited from direct financial support schemes.

On education, he noted the facilitation of an N80 billion education city project in Zaria, alongside a N5 billion scholarship programme benefiting about 30,000 students. He also said several schools had been renovated across his constituency.

In the health sector, he referenced the establishment of primary healthcare centres in various communities and the inauguration of a 100-bed specialist hospital in Zaria.

Tajudeen also reviewed the performance of the 10th House of Representatives under his leadership, stating that over 2,000 bills were introduced within two years, more than 180 passed, and over 50 signed into law.

He urged constituents to support his re-election bid, stressing continuity in development.

“This is not the time for uncertainty. It is the time to consolidate the progress we have made together,” he said.

He pledged to prioritise youth empowerment, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic growth if re-elected.

Also speaking, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, called on voters to support Tajudeen and the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 elections. He was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mayere.
