Deputy governor tasks Muslims, Christians on kindness, peaceful coexistence during fasting

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, has urged Muslims and Christians to embrace kindness and peaceful coexistence during the fasting period.

Hamzat made the call on Sunday at a Ramadan prayer organised by the United Muslim Council of Nigeria, Mushin Division, held in Ogba, Lagos.

He described the fasting season as a period of reflection and spiritual renewal, the deputy governor said it remains vital to building a better and more united nation.

He noted that Ramadan promotes unity, understanding and empathy, urging Nigerians of all faiths to live according to the true teachings of their religions.

“For us as Muslims, the month of Ramadan is special and its essence is to enhance our creation, which is to worship Almighty God,” he said.

Hamzat explained that fasting teaches compassion for the hungry and the less privileged, encouraging believers to become better neighbours and responsible citizens.

According to him, Ramadan strengthens the bond between humanity and the Creator while also fostering better relationships among people.

Citing the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, he said a true believer must ensure that neighbours live in peace and harmony.
He further urged Nigerians to care for their communities and the environment, stressing that such conduct reflects the true essence of faith.

“Let us live up to what we profess. Whether Muslim or Christian, our faith teaches us to be good neighbours,” he said.
