Northern Governors Condemn Abduction of Kebbi Schoolgirls

The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has condemned the attack on Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, where bandits abducted 25 female students and reportedly killed a school official.

In a statement on Monday, the forum’s chairman, Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, described the incident as “tragic, senseless, and utterly unacceptable.” He warned that persistent attacks on learning institutions pose a serious threat to the region’s stability and the nation’s educational development.

Governor Yahaya extended the forum’s condolences to the government and people of Kebbi State, particularly the affected families, and assured Governor Nasir Idris of the NSGF’s full support during the difficult period.

He stressed that schools must remain safe spaces for learning and cautioned that repeated assaults risk undermining progress made toward improving school enrolment and reducing the out-of-school population in the North.

The forum called on security agencies to launch a swift and coordinated rescue operation to ensure the safe return of the abducted students and to bring the attackers to justice. Governor Yahaya also urged communities to remain vigilant and cooperate with security personnel to help curb criminal activities in the region.
