Fayose, Obasanjo Trade Words Over Birthday Ceremony Remarks

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and former President Olusegun Obasanjo have traded harsh words following comments made by Obasanjo during Fayose’s recent birthday celebration.

Fayose, in a strongly worded “Thank You” SMS to the former president, criticised Obasanjo’s remarks at the event, describing them as “very irresponsible” and demanding a refund of the money he claimed to have given Obasanjo.

The “Thank you” note by SMS to the former President, which was made available to newsmen in Abeokuta by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi on Monday, reads:
“Your coming to my birthday party, I appreciate except for your very irresponsible comments at your age… I shall appreciate if you return my money since you publicly admitted you received it.”

Fayose also accused Obasanjo of “losing his sanity,” stating that he chose not to respond to him at the venue so people could “see the difference between a sane and a mad man.”

In a swift reaction, Obasanjo dismissed Fayose’s remarks, saying the former governor’s message “undisguisedly revealed who and what you are, unchanged and unchangeable.” He confirmed that the money had been returned through the same person who delivered it.

Obasanjo stated:
“Your money has been sent back through Foluso Adeagbo who brought it and in the same bag as he brought it, unopened by me.”
