My Goal Is To Give Better Service To The Nation, Build A Lasting Legacy — Hon. Awolesi

The Chief Executive Officer of Melcanon Systems International Limited, Hon. Oluwadamilare Awolesi, has reiterated his commitment to delivering quality service to the nation while building a business that will outlive him.

He stated this on Wednesday during a telephone interview with Edunright correspondents, where he shared his vision, challenges, and advice for young entrepreneurs.

Awolesi said his long-term goal is to establish a company that will stand the test of time and reflect his ideals of excellence and service delivery. “My goal is to build a business that will stand the test of time, a heritage that will keep my name and vision alive long after my lifetime,” he said.

The entrepreneur explained that the name Melcanon originated from Meloco, a construction company he founded over two decades ago before venturing into computer importation and accessories.

He said his initial motivation for going into business was profit, but his passion later extended into real estate management. “Real estate is a lucrative and stable investment. Its long-term value and low risk attracted me to the sector,” he added.

Awolesi, who also operates businesses in farming and information technology, said he maintains a structured schedule to manage his ventures effectively. “I have a basic timetable for each business during the week, and I receive real estate reports monthly,” he explained.

He noted that farming is easier to manage because it is seasonal, adding that his team helps oversee operations even when he is not present. “For my businesses outside Nigeria, I also have a schedule to monitor progress,” he said.

On returns, he revealed that real estate currently brings higher profits compared to farming. “I invest more in real estate management because it yields more returns than farming. Inflation has affected agriculture, while real estate continues to appreciate,” Awolesi said.

Speaking on the challenges of running multiple businesses, he lamented the instability of the economy and the shortage of reliable workers. “We have fraudsters and unfaithful workers who can destroy your business empire. The unstable dollar rate is also crippling importation,” he noted.

He advised young entrepreneurs to focus on creativity and self-reliance rather than depending on employment. “I wouldn’t advise you to work for people. Be creative, start small, and grow gradually. With consistency, your business will flourish,” he said.
