President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appealed to Nigerians to give his administration more time to complete its ongoing reforms and address challenges inherited from previous governments.
Tinubu made the appeal through the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, during a special prayer session held at the National Mosque in Abuja on Friday as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The President said his administration was focused on correcting past mistakes and addressing missed opportunities, while assuring Nigerians that peace and development were gradually returning to the country.
He urged Nigerians not to lose hope, stressing that the country was on the right path and that the sacrifices being made by citizens would eventually contribute to a better Nigeria.
“Peace is coming back to this country. Development is coming back to this country. Things will get better as we progress in this democracy,” Tinubu said.
The President also described Nigeria’s 66 years of independence as a significant milestone, noting that the country had experienced both challenges and opportunities since gaining independence.
His appeal comes amid continued economic hardship following the removal of the fuel subsidy and other economic reforms. The Tinubu administration has maintained that the subsidy removal was necessary to address longstanding economic challenges and put the country on a more sustainable path.
