Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has warned traditional rulers in the state against partisan politics, urging them to remain neutral and embrace politicians across party lines.
Makinde gave the warning on Saturday at Eruwa during the first coronation anniversary of the Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adegbola, where he was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Aare Asoludero of Ibarapaland.
The governor advised traditional rulers to stay away from partisan politics, stressing that any monarch who chooses to engage in politics would be treated as a politician.
Speaking on his presidential ambition, Makinde said he was prepared to travel across the country to seek the support of Nigerians and present his vision for good governance and national development.
He appreciated the Eleruwa and the people of Ibarapaland for the honour, describing the title as a responsibility that would further encourage him to contribute to the development of Oyo State and Nigeria.
Oba Adegbola said the honour was in recognition of Makinde’s achievements across the state. He pledged the support of traditional rulers in Ibarapaland for the governor’s administration and presented requests for more road projects and other infrastructure in the area.
The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin, commended the Makinde administration for its developmental projects, particularly the Ido–Eruwa Road and ongoing inner-road projects in Eruwa.
The event also featured the inauguration of the newly completed palace of the Eleruwa and attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, government officials and other dignitaries.
