President Tinubu, South-West Governors Celebrate Afenifere Leader Fasoranti at 100

President Bola Tinubu, South-West governors, traditional rulers and other prominent Nigerians on Friday gathered in Lagos to celebrate Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, who clocked 100 on May 11, 2026.

The centenary celebration, held at the Muson Centre, Onikan, was themed, “A Century of Courage and Stewardship of Yoruba Democratic Legacy.”

Fasoranti was honoured for his contributions to democracy, public service, Yoruba unity and the preservation of the legacy of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Representing President Tinubu, Minister of Interior Bunmi Tunji-Ojo described Fasoranti as a role model whose life has taught younger Nigerians the value of purposeful living.

The President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, described him as a pillar of Yoruba democracy and culture, saying Nigeria’s democratic history would be incomplete without acknowledging his contributions.

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Habibat Adubiaro, also praised the centenarian for his commitment to democratic ideals and Yoruba heritage.

Fasoranti, in his remarks, urged those present to support President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, saying he should be allowed to complete his programmes.

Former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba chaired the event, while Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, was the chief host. Former governors Kayode Fayemi and Segun Mimiko were also present.
