The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Somtochukwu Udeze, has urged the federal government to honour and immortalise Nigerians who contributed to the struggle that led to the restoration of democratic governance in the country.
In a Democracy Day message issued in Awka through his Chief Press Secretary, Emma Madu, Udeze described pro-democracy activists as heroes whose sacrifices paved the way for the democratic system Nigerians enjoy today.
He called on citizens to uphold democratic values by promoting equity, inclusiveness, unity, and respect for the rule of law, noting that these principles are essential for national development and democratic stability.
The speaker stressed that democracy should be measured by the positive impact of government policies, programmes, and projects on the lives of the people rather than the creation of political offices.
Udeze also commended Charles Soludo for promoting inclusive governance and advancing development across various sectors in Anambra State.
He further urged leaders at all levels of government to prioritise policies and initiatives that improve the welfare and living conditions of citizens.
