Tension in Ogun APC as Gbenga Daniel Withdraws from Senatorial Primary

Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary scheduled for Monday, citing security concerns and alleged threats against his supporters.

Daniel, who is seeking re-election, has been in a political disagreement with Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, over the party’s senatorial ticket for Ogun East.

Tension between both camps has escalated in recent days, with supporters exchanging accusations ahead of the primary election.

In a statement issued on Sunday through the Bola Ahmed Tinubu–Otunba Gbenga Daniel (BATOGD) Movement, Daniel directed his supporters to stay away from the exercise, citing fears of possible violence.

The group said it could not expose its members to danger, stressing that the decision was taken in the interest of their safety.

Daniel’s media aide, Steve Oliyide, also confirmed the development, saying the senator would only reconsider if adequate security and a fair process are guaranteed.
