The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has appointed Mrs Victoria Adunola Samson, popularly known as BOVAS, as the new Chancellor of Osun State University.

The appointment was disclosed by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on the Osun State Government’s official X handle following the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing Chancellor, Folorunso Alakija, who served the institution from 2016 to 2026.

According to Rasheed, “The appointment of BOVAS as the new Chancellor of Osun State University marks the beginning of a significant era of leadership for the institution.”

Mrs Samson is the founder of BOVAS Group and is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most prominent female entrepreneurs in the downstream petroleum sector.

Born on December 5, 1949, she is an indigene of Iree in Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State and has built a strong reputation in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry over several decades.

Governor Adeleke commended the outgoing Chancellor for her decade-long service, noting that her tenure left a lasting impact on the university.

He highlighted one of her most notable contributions as the donation of a major medical facility to the institution.

On Mrs Samson’s appointment, the governor praised her achievements in business and industry, describing her as a model of integrity and service.

Adeleke said, “We recognise and appreciate your distinct efforts to make life easier for consumers of petroleum products. We celebrate you and present you as a symbol of decency, honesty, integrity and humanity in our society.”

The appointment is expected to further strengthen the university’s leadership as it continues to expand its academic and infrastructural development.
