Katsina approves ₦3.8bn loan for 3,890 Hajj pilgrims

The Katsina State Government has approved a ₦3.8 billion loan to secure 3,890 Hajj slots for intending pilgrims from the state for the 2026 pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda announced this on Sunday during the farewell ceremony for pilgrims departing from the state.

He explained that the loan became necessary after Katsina faced challenges in meeting its allocated quota through the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.

According to the governor, the facility enabled the state to secure and fill all 3,890 slots for the 2026 Hajj.

Radda urged the pilgrims to pray for peace, unity and improved security in Katsina State and across Nigeria while in the holy land.

He also said the state government would sponsor Hadaya for all pilgrims as part of efforts to support their welfare.

In addition, each pilgrim will receive a $500 allowance to cover basic expenses in Saudi Arabia.

The governor said 200 officials have been deployed to provide spiritual guidance, medical care and logistical support throughout the pilgrimage.

He noted that the state government has strengthened the Katsina State Pilgrims Welfare Board to improve its efficiency and prevent challenges experienced in previous Hajj operations.

Radda directed the Amirul Hajj and other officials to ensure strict supervision, accountability and discipline during the exercise.

He advised the pilgrims to conduct themselves responsibly and represent Katsina State and Nigeria with dignity.

The governor also cautioned them against spreading misinformation and urged them to communicate responsibly.

Radda added that his administration has improved accommodation and feeding arrangements for Katsina pilgrims in Mecca.

He said he personally inspected the facilities during previous Hajj operations and was satisfied with the improvements.
