Workers’ Day: Gov. Dapo praises Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, reiterates commitment to workers’ welfare

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Friday said the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Tinubu was helping to rebuild confidence in the country through economic reforms, social intervention programmes and improved security efforts.

Abiodun stated this during the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration held at the Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.

Edunright News reports that the governor congratulated workers in Ogun State and commended them for their sacrifices, discipline and contributions to the development of the state.

Abiodun, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said Ogun State would continue to support Federal Government programmes aimed at improving the welfare of the people and strengthening economic growth.

He described Workers’ Day as a special occasion that reflects the struggles that earned workers fairness, dignity and better conditions in the workplace, urging them to remain committed to service.

The governor also praised President Bola Tinubu for prioritising workers’ welfare, economic reforms and human capital development.

Abiodun further commended organised labour, particularly the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, for maintaining a healthy relationship with the state government, noting that the cooperation had contributed to the achievements recorded in Ogun.

Speaking on the challenges facing the country, the governor said poverty and insecurity remained major concerns that required sustained attention.

He said his administration had continued to strengthen security through collaboration with security agencies, provision of infrastructure and support for local security outfits such as Amotekun.

He added that youth empowerment and employment programmes were also being expanded to address the root causes of insecurity and social instability.

Abiodun stated that the state government was paying a N10,000 palliative to civil and public servants to cushion the present economic hardship.

He added that a work-free day policy had also been introduced to promote work-life balance and improve productivity among workers.

The governor disclosed that 5,165 officers were recruited into the public service between 2020 and 2025, while N36.7bn in deductions had been settled.

He said the administration had equally paid over N94bn as pensions since 2019.

In his remarks, the Ogun State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr Hameed Benco, commended Abiodun for prioritising workers’ welfare through prompt payment of salaries and palliative support.

Benco also acknowledged the government’s investments in infrastructure, housing, healthcare and education, but called for improved facilities, increased funding and technology adoption at the local government level to boost service delivery.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress in Ogun State, Mr Akeem Lasisi, described workers as the backbone of governance and economic development, stressing the need for continued support for the workforce.
