President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power following the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu.
Adelabu recently stepped down from the position to focus on his governorship ambition in Oyo State.
The nomination was announced on Thursday in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said Tegbe’s appointment is awaiting confirmation by the Senate in line with constitutional provisions.
According to Onanuga, Tegbe is a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience in both the public and private sectors.
He explained that Tegbe had served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he handled several policy reform, governance and institutional development projects.
Tegbe is also the Director General and Global Liaison of the Nigeria China Strategic Partnership, where he supervises development cooperation between both countries.
The presidential aide added that the ministerial nominee has notable experience in the power sector, especially in regulatory and institutional reforms involving key agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
He expressed confidence that Tegbe’s wealth of experience would help to strengthen ongoing reforms in the sector, improve electricity grid stability and attract sustainable investments.
Onanuga further stated that President Tinubu expects the nominee to deploy his expertise towards achieving better results and improved power supply for Nigerians after his confirmation.
