PDP Governors Call for Calm Ahead of Appeal Court Ruling

The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) has called on party members, supporters, and Nigerians to remain calm ahead of the Court of Appeal’s ruling on the party’s leadership crisis, scheduled for Monday.

In a statement on Sunday, the forum’s Director-General, Emmanuel Agbo, said the party expects everyone to show restraint and respect the rule of law.

“Our response to the judgment must reflect maturity. We urge all party members and leaders to remain calm and law-abiding before, during, and after the ruling,” the statement said.

Agbo added that the party leadership would meet immediately after the judgment to review the outcome and decide on the next steps. “Whatever the decision, the PDP reaffirms its respect for the judiciary and its commitment to peace,” he said.

The statement expressed confidence in the courts, describing the judiciary as the custodian of justice, responsible for ensuring fairness, impartiality, and national stability.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the PDP said it remains committed to offering Nigerians a credible and people-focused alternative.

“No ruling can erase Nigerians’ desire for a fair and competitive political system. We are ready to participate fully in the democratic process and ensure that the voices of the people are heard,” it added.

The PDP also encouraged members with political ambitions to trust the party’s platform. “Despite the Independent National Electoral Commission publishing the election timetable, the party will continue to protect and support members’ political aspirations,” the statement said.

The court case stems from rival factions of the PDP over the party’s national convention in Ibadan in November 2025, where Tanimu Turaki was elected national chairperson. Conflicting rulings from the Federal High Court in Abuja and the Oyo State and Ibadan Federal High Courts have left the convention disputed.

Lawyers for the Turaki-led group asked the Court of Appeal to set aside earlier judgments invalidating the convention, while lawyers for the Wike-aligned faction urged the court to dismiss the appeals and uphold the lower court rulings.

The appellate court had reserved judgment in nine related appeals on February 13.
