The National Chairman of the Nigeria Youth Organisation (NYO), Comrade Okorie C. Okorie, has reiterated the organisation’s commitment to repositioning Nigerian youths as central stakeholders in peacebuilding, security, and national development.
Comrade Okorie made this known during his address at the 2026 Emblem programme of the Nigeria Youth Organisation, held at the Barcelona Hotel, Wuse 2, Abuja.
In his address, the NYO national chairman stated that the organisation is deliberately empowering youths to serve as Community Peace Ambassadors, Election Integrity Advocates, and Partners in Grassroots Intelligence and Security Awareness, stressing that sustainable national security cannot be achieved without meaningful youth inclusion.
He emphasised the need to entrench a culture where young people take pride in defending their communities, protecting public infrastructure, and promoting peaceful coexistence across ethnic, religious, and political lines. According to him, security thrives on trust, and trust can only be sustained when youths are actively involved in governance and civic responsibility.
The NYO chairman further called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, political actors, security agencies, and development partners to collaborate with the organisation in empowering Nigerian youths with education, vocational skills, and sound civic values, rather than allowing them to be exploited for violence and criminal activities.
As he concluded, Comrade Okorie reminded stakeholders that a nation that neglects its youths risks losing its future, while a nation that empowers its youths secures its destiny. He reaffirmed NYO’s unwavering commitment to national unity, peaceful elections, community security, and responsible youth leadership, adding that Nigerian youths must be known for vision, values, and vigilance, not violence.
Speaking at the event, the Ogun State Chairman of the Nigeria Youth Organisation, Comrade Saka Olanrewaju, emphasised the continued alignment of the Ogun State chapter with the core vision and mission of the organisation at the national level. He noted that the state leadership would continue to implement programmes and initiatives that reflect the ideals and objectives of the NYO.
Comrade Olanrewaju further stated that his administration is driven by a clear mission to ensure that youths are gainfully employed, economically independent, and adequately empowered to emerge as responsible leaders within their respective constituencies and communities.
The event also featured the conferment of Distinguished National Youth Merit Awards of Excellence on individuals recognised for their outstanding contributions to national development. Among the awardees were Mr. Uche Nwosu and Dr. Abdulrasheed Maina, who was honoured for his efforts in the fight against corruption.
The programme concluded with a renewed call for collective responsibility, sustained youth engagement, and strategic partnerships aimed at building a peaceful, united, and prosperous Nigeria.
