‘They Threatened to Shoot’: Wike’s Aide Reveals Details of Minister’s Clash With Soldiers in Abuja

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Social Media to the FCT Minister, has shared fresh details on his social media page about Tuesday’s confrontation between Minister Nyesom Wike and armed soldiers at a disputed property in the Gaduwa area of Abuja.

Olayinka said the soldiers, who were reportedly acting on the instruction of former Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo (rtd), blocked Wike and officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration from accessing the site.

He alleged that the troops threatened to shoot anyone who attempted to stop the construction, which the FCTA says has no valid title documents or building approval.

Wike visited the location after speaking with the Chief of Defence Staff. When he arrived, he questioned why armed personnel were guarding a property under investigation for illegal development.

The situation became tense when an officer insisted he was acting on orders. Wike accused the soldiers of trying to intimidate government authorities and maintained that no individual or former official is above the law.

“We cannot continue with impunity. You cannot be higher than the government,” the minister said.

The FCTA has stated that enforcement will continue and that only developments with proper documentation will be allowed in the territory.
