Oyo APC to Boycott Council Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has said it will not participate in the local government election scheduled for December 26, 2026.

The party described the planned poll as unnecessary, ill-conceived and politically motivated, stating that it could further complicate governance at the grassroots level.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the APC questioned the need for another council election when the tenure of the current local government chairmen and councillors has yet to expire.

The party alleged that the move was aimed at influencing the leadership of local councils ahead of the end of Governor Seyi Makinde's administration.

According to the APC, it will not only boycott the election but also work with other stakeholders to oppose what it described as a waste of public resources and an action capable of undermining democratic principles.

The party further called on the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) to suspend plans for the election and ensure that democratic processes are upheld in the state.
