Police caution Cross River applicants against bribery in recruitment exercise

The Nigeria Police Force has warned applicants participating in the ongoing constable recruitment screening exercise in Cross River State to refrain from offering bribes or engaging in any form of financial inducement.

The head of the recruitment team, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Victor Bekep, gave the warning on Tuesday during the official commencement of the screening exercise in Calabar.

Bekep emphasised that the recruitment process is strictly based on merit, noting that only candidates who meet the stipulated requirements would advance to the next stage of the exercise.

He urged applicants to remain orderly and disciplined throughout the screening process, assuring them that the exercise would be conducted in a transparent and fair manner.

According to him, no applicant is expected to pay money to anyone claiming to influence the recruitment process.

“The exercise is free, transparent and strictly based on qualification and merit,” Bekep said.

Also speaking, the Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, Rashid Afegbua, advised applicants to remain vigilant and promptly report individuals or groups demanding money or making fraudulent promises regarding the recruitment.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring a credible and corruption-free recruitment process.

The ongoing exercise is part of the nationwide recruitment aimed at enlisting 50,000 personnel, including general duty and specialist constables, into the Nigeria Police Force.
