The Ogun State Government has disbursed N250 million to artisans across the state to support small businesses and reduce the economic hardship faced by residents.
Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the gesture on Wednesday during the 2025 International Community Day and World Trade Day celebration at the M.K.O. Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta. The governor, represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said the soft loan scheme, called Oko’wo Irinse Dapo, is part of efforts to strengthen local businesses.
He explained that the event showcased the strength of communities, the creativity of artisans, and the importance of trades in building strong local economies. He added that it was also a moment to reflect on the state’s progress and renew the government’s commitment to development.
“I urge all beneficiaries to use the grants wisely, as they are meant to improve your work and support our collective economy,” he said.
The Commissioner for Community Development, Ademola Balogun, said the celebration aligned with global efforts to recognise the resilience and innovation of communities. He praised community leaders and artisans for supporting government programmes and using previous grants responsibly.
“These grants are public funds meant for the common good. We expect transparency, timely project delivery and full compliance with approved guidelines,” he said.
The Chairman of the Ogun State Community Development Council, Adefemi Adetayo, thanked the state government for its continuous support to community projects.
