Gov Yusuf to Present Historic N1tn Budget Plan to Assembly

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf says the state is set for a major milestone as his administration concludes work on its first-ever N1 trillion budget for the 2026 fiscal year.

The governor made this known on Friday while opening a Special Executive Council Meeting convened to review the draft budget ahead of its formal presentation to the State House of Assembly next week. His spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, released the details in a statement issued in Kano.

Governor Yusuf explained that the proposed budget reflects his administration’s drive to deepen ongoing infrastructure projects, advance urban renewal efforts and strengthen socio-economic development across the state.

He attributed the expanded budget size to significant improvements in internally generated revenue and the blocking of financial leakages.

“We have strengthened our revenue systems and closed leakages, giving us the confidence to plan for major transformative projects in 2026,” he said.

According to him, the 2026 proposal will prioritise housing, agriculture, education, healthcare and support for small and medium enterprises, all aimed at stimulating economic growth and improving livelihoods.

The governor added that once the document is finalised, it will be transmitted to the Kano State House of Assembly for consideration.

He reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, fiscal prudence and equitable resource allocation, noting that the 2026 proposal, if approved, would be the first of its size in any northern state.
