Ogun PDP deputy governorship candidate confident of victory in 2027

The Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Ms. Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, has expressed confidence that the party will win the 2027 governorship election in the state.

Sowunmi-Kolapo also said the party was prepared to pursue legal action where necessary, stressing that transparent elections would reduce the need for post-election litigation.

She spoke on Thursday on the sidelines of the ongoing Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) conference in Enugu, where a paper titled “Election Petitions in the Digital Age: Independence, Evidence, BVAS and the Courts” was delivered by a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Afam Osigwe (SAN).

She called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take necessary steps ahead of the 2027 elections to ensure credible polls and minimise disputes after the election.

According to her, the PDP in Ogun State is prepared to campaign, educate voters on their rights and protect the integrity of their votes.

Sowunmi-Kolapo maintained that the 2027 elections would be crucial to the future of participatory democracy in Nigeria, urging INEC, the judiciary and the media to play their roles effectively.

She added that, contrary to claims that some states would witness little or no competition, the Ogun governorship election would be keenly contested.

“We are confident that the people of Ogun State are ready to make their votes count, and the PDP will emerge victorious,” she said.
