President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed the latest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), saying his administration’s economic reforms are yielding positive results.
The NBS report showed that Nigeria’s GDP grew by 4.43 per cent in the second quarter of 2026, compared with 4.23 per cent recorded in the corresponding period of 2025.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
According to the statement, growth was recorded across key sectors of the economy, including agriculture, manufacturing, oil and gas, and services.
It added that the country’s nominal GDP rose to N119.27 trillion in the second quarter of 2026, representing an 18.43 per cent increase from the N100.7 trillion recorded in the same period of 2025.
Tinubu described the latest figures as encouraging, saying they showed that the economic reforms introduced by his administration were beginning to produce measurable results.
The President said the reforms were aimed at stabilising the economy and creating the foundation for sustainable prosperity, adding that the government would continue to implement measures to improve the living conditions of Nigerians.
He also highlighted improvements in foreign reserves, credit ratings, oil and gas production, infrastructure development and access to education financing as some of the gains recorded under his administration.
Tinubu further assured Nigerians that his government would focus on translating the improved macroeconomic performance into tangible benefits for households, particularly through cheaper transportation, increased food production and relief programmes targeting vulnerable citizens.
He said the administration would remain committed to sustaining the country’s economic recovery and ensuring that the progress recorded becomes lasting.
The President urged Nigerians to remain confident in the government’s economic direction, saying stronger economic performance would ultimately translate into improved welfare for citizens.
